Dick's Sporting Goods in the Prescott Valley Crossroads admitted family and friends on Tuesday evening after a ribbon cutting ceremony, has a soft opening today and tomorrow and will conduct its grand opening this weekend with special events and coupons.

"Everyone in Prescott Valley has been fantastic (through the process) and we're certainly excited about opening the country's 537th Dick's Sporting Goods store," Dick's Community Marketing Manager Phillip Birkbeck said

He added that the 35,000-square-foot store is the seventh in the state but the first in Northern Arizona.

Friday, the first 100 adults in line will receive a free mystery gift card, with a possible value up to $500. Also, representatives from Brooks and Saucony will be on site.

Saturday, the first 100 adults in line receive a free Under Armour Tech T-shirt. Aaron Hill, Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman, is scheduled to appear between 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Sunday, the first 100 adults in line receive a free scratch & win card, up to $500 value.

This weekend only, visitors can enter to win equipment from Sog, Louisville Slugger, Stx, Sofsole and Taylormade.

Many Prescott Valley residents found fliers on their doorknobs with a coupon for $10 off a $25 purchase (valid Oct. 11-26 at the PV store only), and those who didn't can download a coupon from the web site.

Dick Stack founded Dick's as a bait and tackle shop in Binghamton, N.Y., in 1948 as an 18-year-old, when his grandmother took $300 from her cookie jar and told him to "do it yourself."

His son, Ed Stack, is current CEO and chairman. The company also owns and operates Golf Galaxy, LLC, a golf specialty retailer.

Assisting Prescott Valley store manager Daniel Villanueva are sales managers David Rouse and Jay Gallagher. They oversee 50 associates in myriad departments, all stocked with colorful goods.

Dick's Sporting Goods carries a broad assortment of brand name equipment, apparel and footwear. This includes equipment for team sports, cardio and strength training exercises, hunting, fishing, biking, skating, camping, hiking, winter sports and more.

Dick's also offers professional in-store services, including: bike tune-ups/repair/installs; gait analysis; scope mounting and bore sighting; archery services; line winding; lacrosse stringing; and glove steaming.

Birkbeck said the business focuses a lot of its efforts on youth sports programs and local organizations, and already has contacted Prescott Valley Little League board members to help.

"Dick Stack really believed in sports and the way they can teach children fundamental values and work ethics," Birkbeck said. "There are a lot of different ways to help out, ranging from equipment donations to hosting the league in our store for registrations."

People looking for support or requesting a donation for their organization can visit: Dickssporting goods.com/community.

The local store also is partnering with the Arizona Sundogs, with a "when the Sundogs win, you win," campaign whereby fans get $10 off a $50 purchase.

Today and tomorrow, store hours are 9 a.m.-9:30 p.m., and no special activities are on tap. Grand opening hours Friday and Saturday are 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Dick's Sporting Goods is at 5715 E. State Route 69. Phone is 928-776-0499.

Regular store hours starting next week are: Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. -9:30 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. -7 p.m.
