Bradshaw gets share of braggin' rights at county cross country meet

Bradshaw Mountain's boys placed second and the ladies were third at the Yavapai County Cross Country Championships this past Wednesday on the Gheral Brownlow Trail in Prescott.

Bradshaw's Bears scored 54 points, behind Prescott's first place of 45. Sedona Red Rock (70), Mingus Union (73), Chino Valley (124) and Wickenburg (169) followed. Camp Verde didn't field a complete team.

With 61 runners on the course, Bradshaw's Saul Martinez, 18:18, paced the Bears for sixth place. Close on his heels was Cody Sharp, 18:22, in seventh; followed by Tycein Chaney, 18:35, and Satchel Clifford, 18:37, who placed 11th and 12th, respectively. Randy Ayala was Bradshaw's fifth man, in 18th place with 19:08.

Hannah Madler led the Lady Bears, with a time of 22:19 for 9th among 49 racers. Not far behind, Desiree Woodruff finished 12th, 22:45. Rounding out Bradshaw's female five were: Athena Dias, 19th, 24:19; Erika Meza, 29th, 26:26; and Kyanna Bruner, 33rd, 27:48.

The Lady Bears' 82 points was behind Mingus Union's first of 29 and Prescott's second place 42. Chino Valley was fourth (95), Wickenburg fifth (125), and Camp Verde sixth (128).

Bradshaw's distance runners head for the Div. II sectional meet this Saturday at Skunk Creek, 27th Ave. and Happy Valley Road in Phoenix, west of 1-17. Admission is free.

The top 50 percent of scoring teams from each sectional race along with the top 25 runners from each sectional race will qualify to compete in the state championship meet.

State tournament races start at 1 p.m. on Nov. 3 at Cave Creek Golf Course, 15202 N. 19th Ave., Phoenix. Admission is $10/adult; $6/student with school ID; under 5/free.
