Obituary: Arthur L. Schultz

Arthur L. Schultz, known as Dutch, 82, a resident of Dewey, Ariz., passed away peacefully in him home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie; sons, Brian and Michael; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as three brothers, Marv, Dick and Larry.

He was born June 22, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., the oldest of six sons. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and spent the next four years on three cruisers and one battleship in Korea. During the Korean War, he was a lookout on the USS Missouri. He met his bride-to-be in 1947 and was married in December of 1951. He raised a family in the Detroit area from 1952 to 1980. They moved to Sedona, Ariz., in July of 1980 and lived in Arizona for the past 32 years.

Presently he resided in the Prescott Country Club. His interest included playing and coaching hockey, baseball and softball. He loved to watch the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, Pistons and Lions.

He was medically retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Company of Detroit due to a severe back injury in the mid 1970s. In 1991, he joined the senior softball league of Prescott, Ariz., and played through 2012. His charismatic personality, sense of humor and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial in his honor will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at the Elks Hall in Prescott Valley. No flowers, please.
