Prescott Valley Police on Sunday at about 4:24 p.m. responded to a report of road rage in the 6000 block of Dodge Circle.

While police investigated the incident, one of the involved parties drove by the scene. He was later identified as Christopher Allen Phelps, 43, of Prescott Valley. Phelps was reportedly disorderly during the incident and officer wanted to speak to him, said Prescott Valley Police spokesman Brandon Bonney.

Two officers got into their vehicle and attempted to stop Phelps. He accelerated and fled from the officers, who had their emergency lights and siren activated. Phelps's vehicle was reported to be traveling at about 60 mph in a 25 mph zone, and he also was observed passing children walking in the area, Bonney said.

Because of the dangerous conditions and Phelps's erratic driving, officers did not chase. They observed him a short time later stopped at the red light at Glassford Hill and Highway 89A. The officers challenged Phelps at gunpoint and attempted to give him commands to take him into custody. Bonney said Phelps accelerated and ran the red light and continued onto Highway 89A. Phelps eventually fled towards Prescott.

Officers were able to locate Phelps at a family member's residence on Panicum in Prescott. When they contacted him, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Phelps made incriminating statements about knowing he fled from police, Bonney said.

Police also processed Phelps for possible DUI. Two hours after the incident, Phelps was found to have a BrAC of .169.

Police arrested Phelps and booked him into the Yavapai County Jail on one felony charge of unlawful flight from law enforcement, and misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, DUI, reckless driving, criminal speed, and aggressive driving.
