Council to consider $440,000 grant for housing program

The town's Community Development Department has relied of grants to help low-income homeowners repair their residences.

To date, the Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program has served 45 homes in the community and invested more than $600,000 in needed repairs, according to a report from planner Ruth Mayday. Forty additional households are on the waiting list.

Mayday successfully applied the Arizona Department of Housing for $400,000 in grant money for home repair work and an additional $40,000 to cover administrative costs related to the program.

The grant award awaits the approval of the Town Council, which will decide Thursday whether to sign a letter of acceptance to the Department of Housing.

The council meeting will be 5:30 p.m. in the library auditorium, 7401 E. Civic Circle.

Also on the meeting's short agenda are:

• Presentations and updates from the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce, Yavapai Symphony Guild, the General Plan ballot measure on the March 12 ballot, the Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Transit Voucher Program.

• A proclamation on the Prescription Drug Abuse Reduction Initiative.

• An agreement with Black and Veatch to evaluate the sewer plant and how it handles nitrogen and other pollutants in the waste stream.

• A letter of support to the CYMPO board for an grade-separated traffic interchange at Highway 89A and Robert Road.
