A Dewey-Humboldt woman died Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident at Main Street Humboldt and Highway 69.

Dept. of Public Safety spokesman Danny Golden said Patricia Matthews, 89, was traveling eastbound at milepost 279 shortly after 3 p.m. when she made a left turn in front of a westbound vehicle. The westbound vehicle struck Matthews' vehicle on the passenger side.

Emergency personnel transported Matthews to Yavapai Regional Medical Center, and then flew her by helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, where she later was pronounced dead, Golden said. The driver of the other vehicle went to YRMC East with minor injuries and was treated and released.

Golden said no citations were issued and impairment was not a factor in the collision.

Its a very sad day indeed whenever we lose one of our own. Patricia was the Mother of Dewey-Humboldt Councilwoman Denise Rogers. Patricia, Denise and their families are highly respected and well loved in our community and this is just a very heartbreaking loss. I would normally get on my soapbox about how dangerous that stretch of highway is and how important it is to at least lower the speed limit there but out of respect for the family I will for now let it go. Denise, From all of your "extended family" here in Dewey Humboldt our hearts, tears and prayers are with you in this very difficult time.
