Prescott Valley boy seriously injured after falling off hood of moving car

A 13-year-old boy was seriously hurt on Feb. 20 in the 4300 block of Preston after falling off the hood of a car a 16-year-old was driving and then getting run over by the vehicle, Prescott Valley Police Department spokesman Brandon Bonney said.

Investigators reported that the teen driver hit the brakes of the Honda Accord he was driving but didn't stop. The 13-year-old then fell underneath the car, which was traveling at a low speed at the time of the accident, Bonney said. The boy went by emergency helicopter to a Phoenix-area hospital with serious injuries, he said.

The 16-year-old driver will be facing reckless driving charges.

"It is very important to understand that it is not safe to cling to any moving vehicle for any reason," Bonney said. "What may appear to be a harmless prank or activity can end badly. The physics involved can be more intense than many might assume and serious injury and death can be a direct result."
