6/20/2013 9:12:00 AM Update: Bicyclist injured in Tuesday collision improving
A 31-year-old Prescott Valley bicyclist injured Tuesday in a collision is in good condition, John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital spokeswoman Susan Fuchs said Wednesday.
Prescott Valley Police Sgt. Brandon Bonney said witnesses told officers the woman, Chancie L. Lofflin, rode her bicycle north on Tani Road with her 2-year-old daughter in a carrier, did not yield at a stop sign at Lakeshore Drive, and struck a vehicle traveling westbound on Lakeshore.
Lofflin was seriously injured and flown to the Phoenix hospital, while her daughter was taken to Yavapai Regional Medical Center East Campus in Prescott Valley for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
When asked for an update on the girl's condition, YRMC Spokeswoman Robbie Nicol said Wednesday "I'm not able to give any information about a 2-year-old patient."
Witnesses told officers they smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Lofflin, and investigators will determine if impairment was possibly a factor in the collision, Bonney said.
Child Protective Services were called to help place the child into a safe home, and detectives are investigating any possible child abuse or endangerment, Bonney said.
